What is the School Sport Co-ordinator (SSCo) Programme?

Penwith Sports Partnership is a government initiative to raise standards in schools and the community through the co-ordinated delivery of physical education (PE), sport and adventurous activities.

Extension of the Specialist Schools Programme – Sports Colleges at the hub. National partners – Department for Education and Skills (DfES), Youth Sport Trust, Sport England, BAALPEand PEA UK

Funding to release teachers to work with partners to develop and improve sporting provision within families of  schools.

Key aims of the Penwith SSCo Partnership   

  • Improve the quality of PE and school sport through improved planning and effective transition of young people between primary and secondary schools.
  • Attainment of Healthy Schools and ActiveMark/SportsMark accreditation.
  • Address transport issues.
  • Increase local opportunities for training and additional support for non specialist PE teachers. 
  • Work with sports development to increase the number of coaches, leaders, officials and volunteers delivering ‘quality’ sports activities. 
  • Ensure a smooth transition from school to club/community sport.
  • Extend the range of opportunities available to all young people.
  • Increase the number of festivals and competitions.

Where Are We?

Penwith is the most westerley district in England. The district of Penwith is surrounded by fantastic coastline on the North, South & West sides. The district stretches from Lands End to Hayle. Penwith Sports Partnership are based at Mounts Bay School & Community Sports College in the Sports Centre.
