WELCOME FROM MR A HARVEY - DIRECTOR OF SPORT

As a Sports College, Mounts Bay School aims to be the hub of sports development for the whole of the Penwith District. Mounts Bay students have a wide range of activities available to them at luchtime and after-school with traditional activities such as games and atheltics as well as the less usual activities such as gig rowing and surfing.

There is also the opportunity to use thef performance analysis equipment/software to enable students to see how they have performed and how they might learn to improve.

As students progress there will be the opportunity to gain various qualifications in many areas of sports and PE from GCSE in PE, BTEC First Dipolam in Sports, Leisure & Tourism, JSLA and other leadership awards, refereeing qualifications and many more. We also offer adults the opportunity to take coaching qualifications to improve the number of quailified coaches both in local schools and in the community. Through the School Sports Co-ordinator Scheme, Mounts Bay together with other locals schools and local clubs are striving to raise sporting standards throughout the district.

INTRODUCTION FROM MR I VEAL - HEAD OF PE

Mounts Bay School strives towards "better quality for all" through the formal curriculum and extra-curricular activities. Sports plays a significant part in the development of the students. A wide range of sports are offered to allow the opportunity for participation, enjoyment, fulfilment, improvement and progression. By building firm foundations in school, young people will seek exit routes at 16+ into clubs for either recreational or competitive approaches, or participate in individual pursuits at a level relative to their ability.

The PE programme is devised to stretch and satisfy both the top player and the willing enthusiast with a wide choice of choice and experiences on offer. All of the main team games are played plus gymnastics and dance, with a host of other options available such as aerobics and fencing through the extra-curricular activities. This provision at Mounts Bay School is extensive with approximately thirty hours of PE taking place throughout the week.

All students at key stages 3 & 4 have two hours of PE per week within the formal curriculum. Some students in year 10 & 11 opt to take PE as a GCSE subject. This have been extremely successful both in terms of achievemnt and enjoyment.  In addition Mounts Bay School can now offer the BTEC First Diploma in Sport. We also offer accreditation for pupils who want to improve their leadership skills in the JSLA award scheme.

The school has a most creditable record of success in matches and competitions both in County and National competitions. We currently have students representing England, The South of England, The South West, and numerous County representatives in rugby, cricket, soccer, netball, hockey, swimming and athletics.
